Cleveland Cavaliers extend streak to five straight

The Cleveland Cavaliers make it five consecutive wins with a 118-107 hunting down the New Orleans Pelicans in Crescent City. With another huge victory, the Cavs move up to 36-22 and improve their chances to lock on to a top-four seed in the standings.

Cleveland followed up consecutive wire-to-wire victories with another rout over a legitimate playoff contender from the opposite conference, jumping ahead from the opening minutes before taking complete control for the entirety of the game.

Four-time All-Star selection and first-time starter Donovan Mitchell returned to the line-up for the Cavs to score a game-high 30 points, while rising star Evan Mobley also erupted for 28 points to go with 13 rebounds, three steals, and two blocks in the win.

Mobley’s frontcourt partner Jarrett Allen also put up a double-double with 20 markers and 11 boards, to go with two blocked shots of his own. On the other side, New Orlean’s own star Brandon Ingram tallied 25 points and eight assists in the losing effort.

The Cavs found a groove at the right time

Following an up-and-down January, the Cavs banked on their patented defense and a well-rounded offensive attack to start the month of February the right way, with five straight wins matching their second-best stretch of games since the start of the season.

While quite inconsistent, backups like Caris LeVert, Cedi Osman, and Ricky Rubio still prove to be invaluable cogs to the Cavs’ machine, especially with multiple key players moving in and out of the lineup due to various injuries.

Cleveland continues to strengthen its hold on fourth place and is now firmly ahead of the once again–embroiled Brooklyn Nets, but the squad needs to prove they can remain consistent and secure valuable homecourt advantage in an uber-competitive Eastern Conference and avoid another second-half collapse similar to last season’s.

The Cleveland Cavaliers will have less than 24 hours prior to hosting division rivals Chicago Bulls and attempting to continue their winning ways at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse.
