Would the Cleveland Browns really go into 2023 with Kellen Mond as their backup?

Could the Cleveland Browns really be willing to go into 2023 with Kellen Mond as their backup?
The Cleveland Browns really do have a quarterback problem. But not in the way you may think. After moving on from backup Case Keenum, the team brought in Jacoby Brissett, who frankly had earned himself a Pro Bowl outing considering his play in 2022. At least compared to some Pro Bowlers. He’ll likely have a big-money offer from a club that’s looking for a bridge quarterback, so while the Browns should prioritize re-signing him, as you never know what’s going to happen with Deshaun Watson, the Browns seem content on moving on from Brissett.
Considering how the cap is at the moment, that’s not surprising.
The team really doesn’t have a second option on their roster outside of Kellen Mond, the third-round pick in 2021 by the Minnesota Vikings. Mond was cut by the Vikings after being pretty bad, and the Browns pounced on him quickly, signing him to a deal.
Now Mond is looking like the heir apparent to the backup spot, and BrownsWire believes that Mond has the “inside track” to claim the backup spot.
The Cleveland Browns would be making a mistake sticking with Kellen Mond
Mond makes sense when you realize that he’s among the more affordable options at quarterback the Browns could get. But with the fact that Watson is one major revelation or one new lawsuit away from being possibly suspended, you want more than just a guy who is affordable.
With Watson, the Browns have a ticking timebomb that may go off at any time. Whether it’s new allegations, and with someone who’s serial in his behavior, that seems very possible, or if it’s due to his chronic history of knee injuries, you need someone who can get you through 10 or so games in a season if needed.
Mond was cut because he couldn’t play the position he was asked to, do you really feel confident in putting the future of the Browns on the shoulders of Mond, a player who was so bad even the quarterback-needy Vikings didn’t want him?
I don’t, and no one should. Invest some money in a solid backup.
