At least one big name thinks Kevin Stefanski is an elite play caller for the Cleveland Browns

Deshaun Watson actually said Kevin Stefanski is an elite play caller for the Cleveland Browns

The Cleveland Browns have had a lot of ups and downs with Kevin Stefanski as the team’s play-caller since he took over the squad in 2020. Despite the obvious, the team continues to let Stefanski call plays, even though his hubris has often times hurt the squad. Far too often Stefanski will play the odds and listen to analytics as opposed to basic football know-how.

Like when you’re tied or down, kicking an easy field goal for points. That seems like a logical move, but Stefanski will oftentimes go for it on fourth down, to varied results. Despite the fact that Stefanski has a host of major mistakes to his name, there is one Browns player that has Stefanski’s back.

And it’s probably the last person you want taking your side. The disgraced franchise quarterback, Deshaun Watson, believes that Stefanski is a “premier” play-caller in the NFL. Despite there being no evidence to the contrary.

Stefanski’s entire offense falls apart if the offensive line has a mediocre day. He is quick to throw out game plans and will either throw too much or run the wrong running backs out there. In fact, the only time the offense looked potent was in the first series, where everything was heavily planned out.

Stefanski doesn’t make successful adjustments often, and that has hindered the Browns.

Kevin Stefanski is on his last legs as Cleveland Browns’ head coach

Kevin Stefanski has fired his two closest confidants, has two back-to-back losing seasons, a locker room that is more known for its constant bickering and off-field issues, and an owner with an itchy trigger finger. Stefanski isn’t surviving the year if the team even has a hiccup.

The Browns went out and got Raymond Ventrone to be the team’s special team coordinator and assistant head coach. How close he is to his new boss Stefanski is a subject of much debate, but due to the timing of his predecessor’s firing, there is room to wonder if his hiring came down from atop, just in case Stefanski got behind the eight-ball.

After all, if Stefanski is fired, then by all accounts, Ventrone would be the heir apparent, at least for the rest of the season.

If that’s the case, then things are going to get interesting. Stefanski is battling against not just perceptions and optics at the moment, but also actual facts. He’s been a bad play-caller, and Watson can say whatever he wants, but as the kids say, “the ball don’t lie”, and the ball in this case is his track record.

Stefanski needs to step down as a play caller if he wants to survive as a head coach.
