The Cleveland Browns have some options at receiver

The Cleveland Browns have not hit very well with their recent drafting of receivers. The Browns have really taken four key receivers in the last three drafts. Only one, Donovan Peoples-Jones, has shown to be a reliable option. In a perfect world, he’s the team’s third receiver, but we’re not in a perfect world and so he’s become a moderately successful starter.

The problem is, the Browns lack a real top-flight receiver as a No. 1 option, and are over-relying on an overpaid Amari Cooper and a late-round steal to provide most of their passing offense at the receiver position.

The Browns need more receivers than what they currently have but they can’t keep relying on draft picks. They have to invest in some proven veterans who need another shot. Typically you’d want a more profound player, but the Browns just need positive performances at a reasonable rate, and that’s why these there names make the most sense.

Three veteran wide receivers that make sense for the Cleveland Browns

Greg Dortch

The 25-year-old is the youngest, and least proven player on this list. He’s been in the league for three seasons, and his best season came in 2022 with the Arizona Cardinals where he put up 467 yards and two touchdowns. It was a modest showing by someone who didn’t have that much going on for him prior to the year. He may not improve much, he may improve greatly, it’s hard to say. It’s worth giving him a two-year contract to see what he can do in the Browns system.

Robert Woods

At 31, Robert Woods is the oldest player on this list and is someone who could give the Browns a great bump in production. He did ok with the Tennessee Titans, first playing with an underperforming Ryan Tannehill, and then playing musical chairs with quarterbacks after that. He averaged just 27 yards per game without Tannehill, and an entire yard less per reception. If the Browns’ current QB can bounce back in 2023, Woods may bounce back as well.

Allen Lazard

For being undrafted, Allen Lazard has had a wonderful career. The former Green Bay Packers receiver may be on the move this offseason and if he is, he’s the perfect guy for the Browns to put some money into. It won’t be a lot and only for a season or two, but he may prove to be the perfect option for the Browns. He’s gotten better just about every year he’s been in the league, so there’s a possibility he hasn’t hit his peak yet.
