Cleveland Cavaliers take care of business at home

The Cleveland Cavaliers pull away in the second half to complete a 114-87 blowout victory over division rivals Detroit Pistons. With another huge win at home, the Cavs move up to 27-7 at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse and 40-26 overall.

Following a difficult loss on the road against the defending Eastern Conference Champions Boston Celtics in New England, the Cavaliers made sure to come out aggressive and secure a needed win in front of their dedicated home crowd.

Even though the undermanned Pistons team was able to keep in step for most of the first half, the Cavs continued to ramp it up in the third quarter, going on another ‘Cavalanche’ to erect an insurmountable 29-point advantage going into the final frame.

Darius Garland led Cleveland’s charge with 21 points and seven assists, while backcourt mate Donovan Mitchell added 20. The Tower City frontcourt duo of Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley also chipped in with a combined 31 markers.

Caris LeVert also supplemented the scoring and lead the bench with 11 points as the starters mostly sat out and allowed the backups to get a significant on-court run.

On the other side, Marvin Bagley III had 20 points and 13 rebounds for a seriously hobbled Detroit team who were left without their best players Cade Cunningham (out for season-leg), and Bojan Bogdanovic (Achilles tendinitis).

The Cavs look to peak in the second half of the season

Going just 2-3 since the All-Star Weekend, the young Cavaliers team should look to peak at the right time and build momentum leading into the final weeks of the regular season to avoid a monumental collapse similar to that of last season’s, where they barely missed out on a postseason berth.

While the Cavs are still holding fort in solo fourth place in the Eastern Conference, they are also only one and a half games ahead of the surging New York Knicks, who have since won their last eight outings.

The Cleveland Cavaliers will have a day off to prepare for the arrival of recent-tormentors Boston Celtics to the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse for another heavyweight clash on March 6.
