Cavs Top 3: Cavaliers mount impressive comeback against short-handed Hornets
By Chad Porto
On Sunday, the Cleveland Cavaliers were to mount a comeback against the Charlotte Hornets.
The Cleveland Cavaliers pulled off a major comeback against the short-handed Charlotte Hornets on Sunday night, thanks to a timely outing by Ricky Rubio and Donovan Mitchell, who both had big fourth quarter against the Hornets. Charlotte had the lead for most of the game but without LaMelo Ball, the team could not hold their own against a Cavs team that generally plays their best ball in the fourth quarter.
Mitchell and Rubio really stepped up in the fourth quarter, but Darius Garland held his own for most of the game while the team attempted to come back. While he missed all three of his shots from the floor in the final frame of action, he was crucial in the first half for keeping the Cavs without shouting distance as the game ticked on.
Garland, however, fell off in the second half. Scoring just eight points, and going 1-6 from the floor. He did help the offense move the ball up-court and had some tight passes but he was a different player in the second half for sure.
If it weren’t for Mitchell and Rubio stepping up, the Cavs would’ve lost this game for sure. While he didn’t make the same impact in the box score as Garland or Mitchell, Evan Mobley more than held his own with Jarrett Allen out. Lamar Stevens filled in for Allen in the lineup, which saw Mobley play more of a true five at times out there.
Mobley showed some great grit and played well inside, keeping the Hornets off-balance all game. The Cavs defeated the Hornets 114-108, after a 33-19 run in the fourth quarter.
