Cleveland Cavaliers rout Washington Wizards for season sweep
Cleveland Cavaliers get back on track with an easy win
The Cleveland Cavaliers rebound from a tough loss to outclass the Washington Wizards at home, 117-94. With another huge win at home, the Cavs continue to solidify their hold of fourth place in the East with a 45-28 record.
After a tough loss to Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers just two nights ago, the Cavaliers immediately assessed their dominance against the up-and-down Wizards team, not once trailing in a lopsided match that at one point saw a 26-point difference between the teams.
The Cavs were led by Darius Garland with 24 points and nine assists, while All-Star teammate Donovan Mitchell and rising star big man Evan Mobley each added 20. Caris LeVert, who had been widely inconsistent all season, continued on a hot stretch with 15 markers off the bench.
Meanwhile, Bradley Beal and Kristaps Porzingis combined for 42 of the Wizards’ final tally but had few answers for the home team and dropped to their fourth loss in their last five outings.
The Cavs should continue chasing homecourt advantage
A mostly healthy team helps as the Cavs slowly round into postseason form, although they still find a hard time matching up with several of the top-tier teams in the conference, so securing home court advantage that comes with a top-four seed becomes imperative.
Last year’s late-season collapse that led the team to crash out after losing both play-in tournament games against the Brooklyn Nets and the Atlanta Hawks should be more than enough fuel for the young team to secure every advantage they could get.
While still four games behind the third-placed Philadephia squad, Cleveland should continue to try and chase the Sixers, because the difference between a potential first or second-round exit and a deeper postseason run will depend on their playoff seeding, given how tight the East has become.
The Cleveland Cavaliers cannot afford to take their foot off the pedal even while being three full games clear of the New York Knicks, and 4.5 games ahead of their next opponent the Brooklyn Nets, whom they are set to visit on March 21st.
