The Cleveland Guardians should extend Amed Rosario, for the right price

The Cleveland Guardians may want to re-sign Amed Rosario.

The Cleveland Guardians sure got lucky when they landed Amed Rosario in the Francisco Lindor trade. That trade alone has given the Guards their two-starting middle-infielders in Rosario and Andres Gimenez, as well as out-fielding prospect Isaiah Greene, and right-handed thrower Josh Wolf.

Greene and Wolf are too raw right now as prospects to truly know what they can be, as they’re both barely into their 20s. Gimenez and Rosario, on the other hand, are already big-time producers for the Guardians. Gimenez won a Gold Glove for his work at second base, as well as an All-Star selection.

Rosario hasn’t had the same award situation as Gimenez, but his bat is every bit as important. Rosario is a .282 hitter for the Guardians since his arrival in 2021 and has never hit below .256 in a full season.

He doesn’t walk a lot, nor does he hit for a lot of power (.403 slugging), but he does strike out a lot, at least on this team. He has his fair share of attributes, but he also isn’t a complete hitter.

This is causing some of the issues the Guardians have with extending Rosario. According to Zack Meisel, the Guardians have tried extending Rosario but the shortstop seems to be hesitant to do a deal.

The Cleveland Guardians shouldn’t break the bank for Amed Rosario

The Cleveland Guardians could use Rosario, but he’s not Jose Ramirez or Shane Bieber. The team doesn’t *need* him. He’s a good player, no doubt about it, but does anyone think the team can’t replace a .280 hitter with 11 home runs and 70+ RBIs with someone in the minor leagues?

Guys like Ramirez, Mike Trout, or Aaron Judge you do all you can to re-sign, but guys like Rosario are guys who have a limit on how much they’re truly worth. The team shouldn’t go all-in on him. So if the Guardos can get him at a good price, re-up his deal, otherwise, just trade him and move on.

Next. The Cleveland Guardians should not go “all-in” to get Shohei Ohtani. dark
