The Cleveland Guardians defeated the Seattle Mariners
The Cleveland Guardians ended Opening Day against the Seattle Mariners hoping for a different outcome, as the Mariners won 3-0 on that day. But the rest of the series would be a showcase of exactly what the Guardians faithful could expect going forward.
A strong showing from the offenese and great pitching from the bullpen got the Guards the series win, a great way to start the year. The best part, Shane Bieber and Jose Ramirez were just ok, a strong sign that this team can win without them, at least for the short-term.
Game 1 (CLE 0, SEA 3)
The Cleveland Guardians and Seattle Mariners kept it tied until the 8th inning when a pitch-clock issue doomed the Guardians and James Karinchack. Shane Bieber kept the Mariners in check but didn’t look overpowering at all.
Game 2 (CLE 9, SEA 4)
Steven Kwan played out of his mind, driving in five runs, while the bullpen bailed out Hunter Gaddis’ start. Gaddis gave up four runs.
Game 3 (CLE 2, SEA 0)
Despite getting little help, Aaron Civale took care of the Mariners all game, going a good seven innings. Solo home runs from Josh Naylor and Andres Gimenez gave the Guards all the offense they needed.
Game 4 (CLE 6, SEA 5)
Seattle smacked around Cal Quantril, but a double and home run from Mike Zunino helped open things up a bit. The Guards scored the go-ahead run in the 10th when Josh Naylor grounded into a fielders-choice, combined with a throwing error, allowing Jose Ramirez to score the go-ahead run.
