Andres Gimenez stars for the Cleveland Guardians as they fall for to the Seattle Mariners
By Chad Porto
Andres Gimenez and the Cleveland Guardians fall to the Seattle Mariners.
The Cleveland Guardians fell to the Seattle Mariners at home, two games to one. The pitching was mostly solid, only giving up 3.6 runs in the nine innings of regular baseball played. Yes, the Mariners tacked on another three in Game 3’s extra innings but had the offense done their job, they have won one, if not both of the games on this list.
While most of the issues we saw were pitching mistakes, or just having subpar at-bats, the name many Guardians fans have been talking about is Josh Bell, the team’s newest first basemen.
Through nine games and 35 at-bats, Bell’s splits are just .086/.250/.086, and an OPS of just .336. His numbers are tragic, but many fans believe this is just his usual slow start. Whether it is, or isn’t, it’s far too soon to give up on him. You need to give a guy at least two months before you know what he is, but his play hasn’t been good.
Looking into the Seattle Mariners and Cleveland Guardians series
Game 1 – (CLE 3, SEA 5)
The Cleveland Guardians fella part in their Home Opener thanks to some shaky work behind the plate by the game’s umpire. The good guys blew a 3-point lead, and most of it was due to Aaron Civale throwing obvious strikes and getting balls called instead.
Game 2 – (CLE 2, SEA 3)
While Cal Quantrill didn’t show a Cy Young-worthy effort, teams are expected to be able to win a game when a starting pitcher, and the relievers, only give up three runs. The Guardians just didn’t hit well and had eight strikeouts for the day.
Game 3 – CLE 7, SEA 6)
Trailing 3-1 in the 9th, the Guardians were able to tie up the game and extend it into the 10th. Then, after no runs were scored, the Guardians were forced to extend the game gain in the 11th, with another two runs. Finally, in the 12th, the Guardians were able to end the game in walk-off fashion, thanks to Josh Bell, who hit into a fielder’s choice, allowing Jose Ramirez to score.
