The Cleveland Browns have added another Ohio State offensive lineman in Luke Wypler during the 2023 NFL Draft.

Luke Wypler is the newest member of the Cleveland Browns in the 2023 NFL Draft. He joins former Ohio State teammate Dawand Jones, who the Browns picked earlier on Day 3 of the 2023 NFL Draft. For the Browns, Wypler could be a long-term project, possibly to replace either Joel Bitonio at guard, or eventually Ethan Pocic at center.

PFF gave him strong grades over the last two seasons, as he became a full-time starter. He went from a 38.8 in 2020 when he was just a reserve, to a score of 79.6 in 2021 and a score of 82.5 in 2022.

Unlike his OSU teammate, however, Wypler is a great all-around blocker. He posted a score of 81.0 and 84.1 in run and pass-blocking respectively. He’s also a great zone blocker, much like Jones, posting an 86.4 grade for 2022.

At 6’3, and 303 pounds, he’s a big lineman but NFL Draft Buzz cites his size and lack of strength as negatives, saying he’s not imposing and tends to “punch at” smaller defenders instead of bodying them.

Luke Wypler may be the steal of the 2023 NFL Draft for the Cleveland Browns

I’m not sure what the others are saying, but 6’3 and 303 lbs is pretty sizeable for a center/guard. Wypler has intense skills and scores out well across the board in a zone-blocking offense, which is what the Browns run. The fact he didn’t go higher is shocking and his arrival all but ends Nick Harris’ time with the Browns, as they now have four on the roster counting Harris, Wypler, Pocic, and Dawson Deaton.
