3 undrafted free agents who may have the best chance of making the Cleveland Browns
By Chad Porto
The Cleveland Browns signed nine undrafted free agents but who do we think will make the team?
The Cleveland Browns have selected at least nine undrafted free agents as of this posting, and maybe more to come. The team is desperate to fill some holes at linebacker, and in the secondary, so it’s not surprising that some of the alleged players picked up so far are the kind of guys that may be able to help fill some gaps.
After all, while drafted players are going to have a better shot at making the team, the Browns are still rocking with A.J. Green on their roster and he was a 2020 undrafted free agent. So it’s possible that one or even more of these undrafted free agents make the team. But who?
Here are our three picks we think can make the team.
Three undrafted free agent selections who may make the Cleveland Browns
TE Thomas Greaney, Albany
Thomas Greaney is not someone I’m familiar with. What I am familiar with is the talent the Cleveland Browns have at tight end. David Njoku is a fine, if albeit overpaid starter. Harrison Bryant could be a great receiver but lacks the size to be an effective blocker as well. Everyone else behind Bryant isn’t long for the team. Greaney is a 6’5, 260 lbs tight end, and should be able to get some guys moving off the block.
S Ronnie Hickman, Ohio State
I think Ronnie Hickman could be the 2023’s class equivalent of A.J. Green. I’m not sold on Grant Delpit or Juan Thornhill as long-term options at the safety position. Both have been inconsistent in the past, with Delpit being at times the worst safety on the team, and Thornhill having nearly the same analytics as former Browns safety John Johnson III. So I think someone like Hickman could land on the Browns roster full-time out of camp.
CB Tanner McAllister, Ohio State
The Browns love their cornerbacks. Despite taking yet another one in the draft this year, the Browns signed former Ohio State cornerback, Tanner McCallister, and the team may be better for it. Say what you will about Andrew Berry’s eye for talent, when it comes to corners, he doesn’t miss. So if he got McAllister, he may have big plans for him.
