The Cleveland Guardians could move on from a few players this season.

The Cleveland Guardians moved on from Konnor Pilkington, a move the team needed to make to bring up Tanner Bibee, a highly touted prospect with a tremendous ceiling. Pilkington was a good arm for the Guards in 2022, but had it not been for injuries last year to the staff, he likely wouldn’t have seen time.

He’s a solid fourth or fifth starter, but when you consider a healthy starting rotation for the Guardians will be Shane Bieber, Triston McKenzie, Cal Quantrill, Bibee, and fellow rookie call-up Logan Allen, it doesn’t make sense to carry around Pilkington any longer.

This also opens up questions about what will happen to Hunter Gaddis, Peyton Battenfield, Aaron Civale, and Zach Plesac. Gaddis is back in Triple-A Columbus, and Battenfield is currently on the team as a rotational starter, as is Plesac. Civale is on the DL at the moment, but all of this could change really fast when McKenzie returns.

Not every name out there is a pitcher, either. Some of them could be position players. Amed Rosario has been a name long-talked about as a player to flip for prospects, but also to allow guys like Gabrial Arias and Brayan Rocchio a chance to play every day.

So what three Cleveland Guardians could be sold off for cash or prospects, without hurting the Guardians’ chance to compete this season?

Three Cleveland Guardians who could be traded regardless of record

Zach Plesac

Considering Zach Plesac’s inconsistent play, his head-ache-inducing nonsense over the last few years, his relationship with Trevor Bauer, and his contract situation, trading Plesac now is as likely as ever. The Guardians wouldn’t be losing a starter but gaining some prospects, and maybe money.

Amed Rosario

Losing Amed Rosario isn’t ideal but it’s acceptable. It’s not like he’s making himself expendable in 2023 and if he can bring you back two reliable future Major Leaguers, and some cash, then his departure only ensures the future of the club.

Cam Gallagher

It’s very likely the Guardians will move on from Cam Gallagher at this rate. He’s not even hitting .100 at the moment, and with Bo Naylor chomping at the bit, it seems he’ll be part of the club sooner rather than later.
