The Cleveland Browns continue to see possible value in XFL talent.

The Cleveland Browns seem to think there might be something to XFL talent, as they’re inviting their second XFL star to try out for the team this summer. The team already brought in the XFL Defensive Player of the Year, Pita Taumoepenu, and is now going to be looking at former XFL linebacker Deandre Johnson.

According to Football Database, Johnson didn’t have a huge season statistically for the Houston Roughnecks, racking up just 15 tackles and one sack for the season. What appears to be the upside for Johnson in the Browns’ eyes may be his age. He’s only 24.

While some are saying he’s a “standout” for the XFL, that’s simply not true. He had some upside coming out of college and the Browns may be hoping that some different coaching may unlock something.

The Cleveland Browns aren’t done making moves

The team has already opted to make some cuts, as they’ve moved on from defensive tackle Ben Stille and wide receiver Marquez Stevenson.

Stille came out of Nebraska as a defensive end in their 3-4 but played primarily defensive tackle in the NFL. He was an undrafted free agent in 2022 with the Miami Dolphins, playing in just one game before the Browns picked him up. He played in six games for the Browns, starting one and not making much of a stat line impact.

Stevenson was picked up by the Bills in 2021 as a sixth-round pick but spent the last two years on the Browns’ practice squad, not really making much noise, and never saw any action with the Browns. Though with the Bills he was called on to do some return work. This may be a sign that the Browns don’t intend on parting ways with current All-Pro return man, Jakeem Grant. Grant is someone fans speculate may be cut due to his salary and a crowded receiver room.

Since the news broke, Stille has already been claimed by the Arizona Cardinals.
