NBA fans continue to disrespect Jarrett Allen and the Cleveland Cavaliers with these terrible trade ideas
By Chad Porto
Yet another terrible trade idea for Jarrett Allen and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
I’m not one to tell a content creator to stop making content, but if there were one group that would make me get there emotionally, it’d be Fanspro. The sports site, known for its very in-depth trade machine, also has a fan forum where fans can create their favorite trade ideas for evaluation among the community. I like that, but the trades that often get promoted are, for lack of a better term, straight trash. The player with the most awful trade ideas involves the Cleveland Cavaliers’ very own Jarrett Allen.
Allen has been a subject of fan speculation all offseason, a topic that has increased our own paranoia of the club going in the right direction in the future. See, many fans seem to think the New York Knickc series “exposed” Allen, but that’s just not true. The Cavs as a whole was a disjointed mess, led by a player with something to prove, and ultimately didn’t.
So now, because Allen had one bad series in his career, fans want to move on from him. The problem, however, involves the fact that each trade Allen is put in seems to almost belligerently devalue the All-Star center.
Not only that, but the players the Cavs get back are almost always backups or fringe NBA players at best. With the most recent trade being the worst.
Trading Jarrett Allen does not help the Cleveland Cavaliers at all, least of all for three non-offensive players
Dorian Finney-Smith is a defensive player who can’t shoot, not too dissimilar from Isaac Okoro. The Cavs need a starting small forward who can shoot, Royce O’Neal isn’t that guy. He’s always been a fringe starter and has never averaged 10 points in a season before. That’s just Okoro but shorter. At 6’4, and with no history of consistent scoring, why would the Cavs rely on O’Neal when Okoro is the same player, but younger and more affordable?
Then there’s JaVale McGee, who I like, but I wouldn’t give up Allen for him.
Then the trade tacks on the 21st pick as if it’s something valuable. In the NBA, anything, realistically, outside of the Top 10 doesn’t have a lot of value. Yes, there’s the occasional gem, that late in the first, but the Cavs have proven All-Star, so why would they give him up for that pick?
Clearly, this was created by a Brooklyn Nets fan, as there’s no other reason why the Dallas Mavericks would end them the 10th overall pick for O’Neal and Finney-Smith. This is a joke of a trade.
