Kareem Hunt may have found his next home following his departure from the Cleveland Browns

The Cleveland Browns may be seeing Kareem Hunt sooner rather than later.
The Cleveland Browns have parted ways with area native, Kareem Hunt. Hunt, now a free agent, has yet to sign a new deal with a different team. The NFL has already begun their summer offseason set of practices, so the lack of a new contract is concerning. Hunt, who’s just shy of being 28, has not rebounded as well as many had hoped. During his time in Cleveland, despite what many want to claim, he never rose above an average running back.
He wasn’t the difference maker in the passing game as he was in Kansas City, and Hunt’s running game was never near the level of Nick Chubb. Chubb would use his shiftiness to extend runs, often giving defenders only a brief shot at his shoulders before moving to the next level of the defenses. Yet Hunt would run into defenders as if he were Mike Alstott.
It was a constant issue, but fans started to realize just how much more hindered the running game was when Hunt came in and replaced Chubb during the 2022 campaign. So it wasn’t at all surprising to not only see Hunt get not re-signed and remain a free agent heading into the middle of June.
Kareem Hunt may be facing off with the Cleveland Browns this season
It’s early, and the source isn’t the most trusted but Josina Anderson is reporting that the Washington Commanders have an interest in Hunt. The interest may very well be real, as the team needs a running back. Is Hunt good enough to be that running back? Who knows, but maybe.
The Commanders currently have Brian Robinson Jr., a third-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, and Antonio Gibson, a third-round pick from the 2020 NFL Draft. They also took Chris Rodriguez Jr. in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. So it’s not like they don’t have bodies. They do, but do they have talent?
According to PFF, maybe not. Washington’s running backs are ranked just 27th in the league as a group, clearly, the optics aren’t on their side.
Hunt makes total sense for the Commanders and it’s a move I think benefits everyone involved, even if Hunt isn’t an elite or even a very good running back anymore.
