5 Free Agents the Browns Should Sign Before NFL Draft
4. Ashtyn Davis, S
Can you ever have too many defensive backs or good special teams players on your roster in the NFL?
I'm not sure that's possible.
The safety market has been quite team-friendly in the 2024 offseason, and as a result, there are still a lot of really good, intriguing players still just sitting there. Former New York Jets third-round pick Ashtyn Davis may not have lived up to his billing at this point as a top-100 NFL Draft selection, but he's still capable of being a valuable pickup for a variety of NFL teams.
He has somehow managed to find a way to pick off six passes over the last three years, including three in the 2023 season despite playing just 217 total snaps for Robert Saleh. He has also played a ton of special teams, and while the Browns just added Justin Hardee from the Jets, perhaps they could get another former Jet in the mix on special teams with Ashtyn Davis.
On top of his three interceptions last season, Davis also added three tackles for loss and 37 total tackles. The Browns would be loaded in the secondary with a move like this.
