Cleveland Browns: E.J. Bibbs Should Be Activated

The Cleveland Browns have been getting great QB play from Josh McCown. There also should be as many playmakers as possible available to McCown. Unfortunately, the team has yet to use one that could make an impact.

Through five weeks, the Cleveland Browns have a 2-3 record. Going forward, the Browns will need playmakers in order to pick up more wins. Cleveland has smaller WRs and their top receiver has been TE Gary Barnidge, who has been known more as a No.2 TE over the course of his career. To add to their offense, the team needs to activate and play TE E.J. Bibbs.

Why Bibbs is not activated and on the field playing is puzzling. The running game has not done anything great and outside of Barnidge’s play, the receiving game as a whole has been average so why not add another player who can catch the ball?

Bibbs also impressed Browns head coach Mike Pettine early on during training camp.

Bibbs is the opposite in size compared to most of their recievers as he stands 6’3 and 264 pounds. Cleveland’s additions on offense in WR Dwayne Bowe and TE Rob Housler, who are both big targets, have not made a difference.

Seeing both of them contribute to the Browns like they have in the past for other teams would be great. Yet, that should not be an expectation going forward this football season.

Bibbs caught 45 passes and eight touchdowns last season at Iowa State. When he was in college, Bibbs caught 84 passes.

McCown has played solid this season but he is no Tom Brady or Andrew Luck. However, if he can get more players on the field with some size, McCown’s statistics would certainly be better than what he has put up so far this season.  Just think about the opportunities– he would not have to force the football at times to these shorter wide receivers.

After five games McCown has passed for 1,203 yards and six TDs.

Once the Browns do activate Bibbs and hopefully play him, they along with the team’s fanbase will see how much he can open up their offense. His versatility to be used in multiple areas in a given offensive play would benefit the team from the start.

Only activating Bibbs will not solely improve the offense, but what he brings to Cleveland can help. Other WRs that are tall and considered to be playmakers needs to step up or other players will need to be brought in to add to McCown’s options.

In time he will get that notified he is going to be activated. Hopefully that happens sooner rather than later.
