Manziel Is Not A Franchise QB

I would say his future isn’t roses. If the present regime stays in place and all the mistakes they have made says they shouldn’t, it tells me we have wasted two years continuing to try to find our “franchise” quarterback! This disturbs me very much.

We have already wasted years since 1999 trying to find him and this just prolongs our sentence of mediocrity at best. McCown has already proven what he can do and that is be no more than a back up quarterback in this league. The one good stretch he had with the Chicago Bears was an anomaly at best.

He has not played in, let alone won a playoff game in his career! So I wouldn’t look for him to do anything different here, especially with this teams lack of playmakers on offense!

I want to see Manziel succeed and lead the Browns to years of success. He has improved and even though he got credit for the win, which he deserves, the Browns’ defense is the reason they won last week.

Many QBs have waited on the bench for years, but they did not have a skill set like Manziel’s. The transition from how little he was responsible for on the field in college to now in the NFL is huge. That is a work in progress, but Manziel needs to speed up his learning to make a legit impact.

Yes, he still will likely get some time this season (probably later in 2015), but regardless of how much he improves and plays I cannot see him being the future at QB. He could stay on with the team as a backup but that is it. If  Manziel was the guy, Cleveland would be starting him.

Manziel’s ceiling is as an average starting QB, but I do not know when he will achieve that. Regardless of whether or not changes are made in the front office or the coaching staff in the future, the team should elsewhere for their “franchise QB” that fits more with what the Browns are trying to do.
