Carmelo Rumors: Carmelo Anthony Wants To Join Cavs
Ready for some Carmelo Rumors? It’s being reported Carmelo Anthony would waive his no-trade cause to join LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Carmelo Anthony wants to be in Cleveland. The Cavaliers don’t want to part with Kevin Love. And LeBron James is all of a sudden staying quiet. Another day in Cavs’ Country.
“Carmelo Anthony wants to come to Cleveland and would waive his no-trade clause to play for the Cavaliers, league sources told Amico Hoops on Friday,” wrote Amico Hoops founder Sam Amico.
Additionally, Amico said the Cavs are holding to their stance that they’d welcome Carmelo, but not in exchange for Kevin Love. “…The Cavs have made it known they are open to trading for Anthony, providing the deal does not involve Love,” Amico wrote.
What’s it going to take to land Carmelo? Probably Iman Shumpert, maybe Tristan Thompson. Remember, when players are traded in the NBA, the money has to match. The Cavs do have some small trade exceptions, but those can’t be combined with players.
Anthony is making $24 million this year.
ESPN analyst Jalen Rose said he would trade Love for Anthony.
I don’t concur.
At what cost should the Cavs bring in Anthony? They’re going to have to move multiple good players to bring on his contract. Is adding Anthony really worth getting rid of depth halfway through the season.
Love is averaging a double-double. He gets defensive rebounds. Anthony scores, but doesn’t rebound much. You may not notice this in the regular season, but you will come playoff time.
Shumpert is having a terrific year. J.R. Smith will return from injury. So the Cavs hit a rut in January. Is it reason to force such significant change halfway through the year?
And where’s LeBron in all of this. You’d think the way he was carrying on last month over the Cavs’ lack of a playmaker, that he’d be pushing for a trade that would land his great friend in a Wine and Gold jersey.
So far, that’s not the case.
“James said he would not reveal if they have spoken. Anthony remained curiously quiet Friday, perhaps not wanting to go into his seminal fourth-quarter benching against Brooklyn and uncertain future,” via the New York Post.
Meanwhile, James told the local press: “I just want the best for my friend, no matter what it is. If he’s there in New York or if he’s not, I just want the best for him. I want him to be happy. That’s all that matters. The game comes very easy to you when you’re happy about where you’re at, so if he’s happy in New York or he wants to be elsewhere, not sure.”
