Cleveland Browns announce jersey numbers for 2017 NFL Draft Picks
The Cleveland Browns have revealed jersey numbers for their 2017 NFL Draft picks.
Ready to commit the $100 it cost to snag a Cleveland Browns jersey? Have that credit card ready because the new Browns uniform numbers for the 2017 rookie class have been released.
Myles Garrett, 95
Myles Garrett will wear No. 95, a number that was once owned by former first-round bust, Kamerion Wimbley. Obviously, let’s hope things turn out better this time around.
No. 95 was also owned by Jamir Miller from the 1999-2001 seasons. Browns fans thought Miller would be the pass rusher that had evaded the “old Browns.” An injury derailed Miller’s career, and cut his time with the Browns short.
Armonty Bryant, a late-round draft pick during Joe Banner and Mike Lombarid’s only draft, wore the number from 2013-2016.
Jabrill Peppers, 27
Trying to think of a player who recently wore 27 that fans got excited about and couldn’t come up with anyone. Some Googling revealed safety Thom Darden, a fan favorite back in the 1970s, is probably the most accomplished Brownie to sport the number.
For elder millenials–those born in 1980-1983–the name Kareem Abdul-Jabbar will ring a bell. The running back we were all waiting to fall in love with wore the jersey during those early
The last men to wear this number on a Browns’ roster? Edwin Baker “The Touchdown Maker” and Robert Turbin.
Jabrill Peppers has the potential to be the best player to wear the number, but as the adage goes, time will tell.
David Njoku, 85
David Njoku actually possesses one of the more successful uniform numbers since the Browns were re-born in 1999. No. 99 belonged to former wide receiver Kevin Johnson, who had a nice career with Cleveland after being drafted in the second round of the 1999 NFL Draft. Johnson eclipsed the 1,000-yard receiving mark for the only time in his career during the 2001 season (1,097).
Receiver Rannell Hall possessed No. 85 from 2015-2017.
DeShone Kizer, 7
DeShone Kizer won’t keep his old number, which was No. 14, because it’s been retired by the Browns in honor of Otto Graham. So, Kizer will change to No. 7 and he’s got a chance to make it a memorable one in Cleveland Browns lore.
In recent history, the number has kind of been a reminder of how bad the quarterback spot has gotten in Cleveland. Former players to wear No. 7 include Bruce Gradkowski, Alex Tanney, of YouTube fame, Austin Davis and apparently, Joe Callahan had it last season.
Tom Tupa, the former punter, is probably the most recognizable player to wear the number.
Larry Ogunjobi, 65
Larry Ogunjobi will wear No. 65.
Some good players have worn No. 65 for the Cleveland Browns, but it’s been decades since we’ve seen them wear an orange helmet.
Offensive lineman John Demarie wore the number from 1968-1975. The LSU product was a sixth-round pick in 1968, who went on to play in 132 NFL games, starting 102. Offensive lineman Henry Sheppard picked up the number after Demarie departed Cleveland and went to appear in 82 games for the Browns, starting 62. Sheppard was a fifth-round pick in 1976.
More recently, Eric Steinbach has had the most success sporting No. 65. The offensive guard is one of the most successful free-agent signings the “new Browns” have enjoyed. Steinbach played a big part on the line during Cleveland’s 10-6 record in 2007, which is the only time the “new Browns” have ever won double-digit games.

Kaleb Johnson wore the uniform number last season, and fans may remember Garrett Gilkey, the offensive lineman who owned the number in 2013.
