Jadeveon Clowney could still sign with the Cleveland Browns.

Mary Kay Cabot is reporting that there’s still a 50/50 possibility that Jadeveon Clowney signs with the Cleveland Browns. All this despite reports that came out saying he had no interest in signing with the team. As of right now, Clowney remains unsigned with his suitors drying up. The New York Jets are apparently not interested and the Dallas Cowboys would need to cut some more salary to even get within sniffing distance of an offer.

The Browns remain interested, reportedly offering Clowney a deal worth $12 million a year, which Clowney declined. At one point, Clowney was wanting $20 million a season so the Browns rumored offer was quite low considering where his original asking price was at just four months ago.

The market has cooled considerably on Clowney and others.

The market on him and fellow top defensive end Everson Griffen is nearly non-existent. Each week that both men remain unsigned their value drops even more. What’s more, the market will collapse for one, when the other signs first. Making it all the more important for one of them to sign sooner rather than later. While Griffin’s age and salary number worry teams, Clowney is still relatively young, relatively productive, and is by no means a bust.

Yet, he remains unsigned as well.

Clowney’s addition on the Browns would strengthen a defensive line that wasn’t great in 2019 and didn’t improve much in the 2020 offseason. The Browns appear to be rolling into 2020 with Olivier Vernon regardless of what happens, mostly because they have the salary-cap space to do just that. His numbers come off the books regardless next year, meaning if you can bring Clowney in at or below Vernon’s price, you’ll still have loads of cap space to play with to sign the three corp members of the Browns future; Baker Mayfield, Nick Chubb, and Myles Garrett.

Until we know where Clowney signs, we wait.
