Three Cleveland Browns players who suffered major injuries in training camp/preseason
The Cleveland Browns got bad news that Mack Wilson suffered a devastating knee injury. His season is in doubt, and with all major injuries, his career. This isn’t the first time the Cleveland Browns had to deal with a player getting severely injured during training camp. The team has seen this kind of thing before. Wilson is just the latest casualty.
It can happen to any team but it feels like it happens most to the Browns. Maybe that’s because the team has had so few opportunities to succeed, so fans focus more, but this list seems unique to Cleveland and not just because the team’s track record since 1999.
Throughout the Browns’ history, there’s always been this issue just before or following major seasons for the team. Be it losing the best defensive player before the start of the 2002 season, the only playoff season in Browns’ history since their return in 1999 or in 2006 when a star of the area returned home.
It even happened after the team’s best statistical season in 2007. The next season had all sorts of hope around it but the loss of a key piece or two may have been all that was holding the team together. Will Wilson’s injury be as significant? Considering how weak the defense is, yeah, it’s a possibility.
So while we all hope for the best for Wilson, let’s take a look back at some of the other players that got hurt or sick during the preseason and ended up unable to not just play that year, but ever again. These the three players who couldn’t overcome their preseason injuries.
