Former Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel, as well as legends like Ricky Williams and Brian Urlacher, are in talks to join the upstart league Fan Controlled Football.

Some people keep getting opportunities to succeed, no matter how many times they screw up. That’s the case for former Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel who’s apparently in negotiations to play for the Fan Controlled Football league. Right now he’s in talks to be the Zappers starting quarterback. Manziel, who was a first-round pick for the Browns in 2014, going 22nd overall to the Browns.

Manziel at one point was expected to go at the top of the NFL Draft that year, with the Dallas Cowboys allegedly showing a lot of interest. He ended up falling through, where the Browns got him.

Assuming Manziel does join the league, he’ll play for Minnesota Twins pitcher Trevor May and comedian Bob Menery. The league is looking to stream on Twitch, bypassing the need for conventional television. It’ll also be a league that will see fans have some control over play-calling and the like. The league is expected to fill the niche of the Arena Football League and will play a similar style as the AFL and other indoor leagues.

The league will see four teams in their inaugural season, with athletes co-owning every team. LA Chargers running back Austin Eckler will co-own the Wild Aces, while current 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman will co-own the Glacier Boyz. Then boxing legend Mike Tyson retired running back Marshawn Lynch and current AEW pro wrestler Miro (WWE’s Rusev) will co-own the Beasts.

Making things interesting, however, is that Manziel may be returning to play against legitimate legends. Former Saints and Dolphins running back Ricky Williams and former Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher have been linked to the league and may actually come out of retirement to suit up for the league once again.

With the success of the Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. fight from November, it’s entirely possible that a league of still-in-shape but past-their-prime legends could work. We’ll have to see, however.

For Manziel, this is this fourth opportunity following his failure to catch on in the NFL, the CFL, and the closure of the AAF.
