Cavs: Team had no chance against Jazz missing 8 players
By Chad Porto
The Cavs fell to the Jazz 117 -87 in a lopsided affair that saw the Cavaliers play this game with eight of their best players sitting out.
The Cavs fell to 5-7 on the season Tuesday, losing by 30 points to the Utah Jazz. It was a night where the Cas were without eight of their best players,a trend through the start of the season. Though, they weren’t just missing the usual cast of suspects (Kevin Love, Darius Garland, Dylan Windler, Dante Exum) but also Andre Drummond and Collin Sexton as well. Drummond hurt his ankle in the previous game and Sexton is still listed as day-to-day.
The team is also still without Matthew Delevdeova and Kevin Porter as well.
The Cavs couldn’t muster any offense off the bench, or in the starting five. The team is just wrecked with injuries and because of that, so it’s no surprise the Jazz won. Losing eight players will make it far easier for opponents to get wins on the Cavs.
Cedi Osman led the way with 17 points and had a nice shooting day from the floor, (7-of-15) but went 0-for-6 from three.
Let’s check out the things we learned from this game.
The Cavs added another missing player to the injured list, making it eight overall
The Cavs were hoping to get back Sexton tonight but instead were without him and then Drummond. That makes six key players with Darius Garland, Kevin Love, Dylan Windler, and Dante Exum all out as well. The team was still down Kevin Porter Jr. and Matthew Dellavedova as well, but they don’t seem to be key components to the team’s immediate future. Missing all those players are a sure way to guarantee a loss. Which is exactly what happened.
There’s no bench on this version of the team
With so many guys out and so many key bench players in the lineup, the Cavs have found themselves in a situation where the team has no bench, making it nearly impossible to rely on anyone other than the starting five to generate points. Thankfully, most of the currentt starters are your bench players, and they’ve played well, considering most nights it’s 5-on-9. So when the rest do return, this will be a deep team.
Isaac Okoro can’t be relied upon to get points in big chunks.
Despite being called the most impactful rookie, Isaac Okoro is struggling to shoot the ball. He shot 4-0f-13 from the floor, 2-of-6 from the three-point stripe, and 1-for-2 at the free-throw line against Utah. These types of outings are pretty common for Okoro so far and if Sexton, Love, and Drummond were healthy, it wouldn’t be a big deal. They’re not, however, so it is. Okoro is not the guy you want coming into the starting lineup and jacking up shots. Okoro finished with just 11 points.
