Cavs Top 3: Darius Garland fastest to 200 3-pointers in lopsided win over Bulls
By Chad Porto
Everything went right for the Cavs on Wednesday. The duo of Darius Garland and Collin Sexton played solid defensively, the Cavs forced 19 turnovers, hit 44% of three-point shots taken, had 27 assists, and generally just outplayed the Bulls. The big story was Darius Garland becoming the fastest Cavaliers player ever to hit 200 three-pointers in a career. The Cavaliers ended up defeating the Bulls 121-105.
Granted, the Cavs were helped out by a bad game from Nikola Vucevic, who shot just 4-12 from the floor, and 1-5 from three-point. He finished the game with just nine points and five rebounds. The other big aiding factor was Zach Lavine’s absence from the game. He missed the Cavs’ last encounter, which didn’t go Cleveland’s way.
We’ll get to the big performers from tonight’s game, but credit goes to Jarrett Allen and Isaiah Hartenstein, who combined shut down the Bulls interior all night. Hartenstein for his efforts did fantastic in such a limited time. While becoming one of the team’s best defensive players, arguably on par with Allen’s interior defense, Hartenstein put up 10 points, six rebounds, and an assist in just 16 minutes of play.
Larry Nance had 10 points off the bench, and Matthew Dellavedova had six assists, second on the night behind Collin Sexton.
Top 3 Game Performers
1 Point – Kevin Love
Kevin Love continues to look more and more like his old self. Love got in on the ball movement tonight and finished with a great stat line of 15 points, nine rebounds, and four assists. Considering Love had to face two of the Bulls’ three best low post-scoring threats all night, his defense was actually pretty solid.
2 Points – Collin Sexton
When you up tup 30 points, you’re going to get pretty high on the list. His seven assists and solid defense against a bad Bulls backcourt helped make this game pretty uneven.
3 Points – Darius Garland
It may seem odd to see Darius Garland ahead of Sexton, but here’s why. Both men shot 60% from the floor, sure, but Garland shot 100% from three-point and set a franchise record. He also shot fewer times than Sexton and shot better from the free-throw line as well. His defense was also better than Sexton’s.
