Watch: Jordan Luplow hits walk-off home run to give Indians the win
By Chad Porto
Jordan Luplow is proving to the Indians he’s worthwhile.
The Cleveland Indians just got a huge break against the visiting Minnesota Twins. The Tribe went back and forth through game one of the series, with Franmil Reyes and Eddie Rosario both stepping up with RBI’s, but it wasn’t enough heading into the bottom of the 8th when Jose Ramirez hit a dart to right field to tie the game at 3-3. Ramirez set the table for Jordan Luplow to eat.
The Tribe held off the Twins, and eventually went into extra innings. With Cesar Hernandez on second base, Minnesota brought on Alex Colome to try and get Jordan Luplow out. Luplow, who had been hitless through the game, came up to the plate.
On just his third pitch since entering the game, Colome left one over the plate for Luplow to launch into the stands in left field, sending not just the team but the fans home happy with the final score of 5-3 in favor of the Tribe.
The Indians advanced to 10-11 on the season with the walk-off win.
Luplow is becoming reliable.
Despite a rough game and a not so sterling average of .229, Luplow has really found his power stroke. The Indians now have 26 home runs on the year thanks to Luplow and Ramirez, which is becoming a trend. Luplow is leading the Indians with six home runs, while Ramirez and Franmil Reyes are tied for second with five.
Not only is Luplow leading the team in dingers, but he’s second on the team with RBI’s, just one shy of Reyes, who has a team-leading 15.
Luplow’s walk-off home run is not only the second of his career, but with him keeping pace with a big bat like Reyes and a consistent bat with Ramirez, he’s showing his value to not just the team but the city of Cleveland.
The hope is that his consistency in between the huge shots starts to level himself out so that he’s more of a deadly threat all the time and not just some of the time.
Same home run, but from Tom Hamilton.
