The Browns have traded up in the 2021 NFL Draft to select Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah

The Browns have apparently had enough of watching Notre Dame linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah and have decided to do the noble thing and trade up, drafting the young linebacker. Owusu-Koramoah is a middle linebacker and was a potential first-round draft pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Not many expected him to fall this far, nor did anyone expect the Browns to make a gutsy call and trade up to take him.

Owusu-Koramoah joins first-round draft pick, cornerback Greg Newsome as new faces on the team’s defense who should be players pushing for immediate playing time on day one and may even be the favorites to start on the team as of right now.

The Browns have really helped their defense in the first two days of the draft, a side of the ball the team was desperate to upgrade after countless failings last year.

According to Field Yates, the Browns gave up their second-round pick (No. 59) and one of their third-round picks (No. 89) for the Panthers second-rounder (No. 52) and the Panther’s fourth-round pick (No. 113).

Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah is everything the Browns need.

Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah is everything Joe Woods is going to want at a linebacker in the modern-day NFL. He’s fast, with a suspected 4.48 4o-yard dash, with a 4.65 shuttle drill, so not only is he fast, but he’s quick too.

He’s also a hybrid-type player, big enough to play in the middle of the modern NFL, but fast enough to play safety or just pure coverage if he has to in given situations. He was the “Rover” for Notre Dame, a linebacker/safety hybrid who would drop back some in coverage, sort of like Arizona Cardinals’ 2020 first-round pick, Isaiah Simmons.

With a player like Owusu-Koramoah, defensive coordinator got themselves a linebacker who never has to leave the field, a true-three down player.
