Cavs Top 3: Kevin Love and Collin Sexton lead team to win in last home game
By Chad Porto
Kevin Love and Collin Sexto led the Cavs to victory on Wednesday.
In a battle of two injury-riddled squads, the Cavs dunked the Celtics 102-94 on Wednesday night. It was the veteran Kevin Love and the third-year guard Collin Sexton who led the way for the Cavaliers to take home the “w”, breaking a skid that lasted for 11 games. This also marked the 2021 home-season finale.
The Cavs saw over 70% of their points scored from Sexton, Love, or Isaac Okoro. No other player scored over nine points for the game. Jarrett Allen was out for the game, joining Cedi Osman, Larry Nance and a bunch of others who have missed countless games to close out the season.
The Cavs move to 22-48 on the season, with two away games to go.
Top Three Game Performers
1 Point -Isaac Okoro
The Cavs didn’t have a lot going on for them tonight, so it was good to see the rookie, Isaac Okoro, step up and help contribute in a big way. He finished with 15 points, six assists, and six rebounds while playing stout defense all game. Okoro has struggled shooting the ball with consistency but if games of him putting up double-digit points, with five-plus assists and five-plus rebounds, while playing great defense is his ceiling, then that’s going to be great. We have a long way to go through to see if that is where he ends up.
2 Points – Collin Sexton
The Cavs benefited from the fact that Kemba Walker, Marcus Smart, and Jaylen Brown were all injured for the game and no one benefited more than Collin Sexton, who would’ve had to guard them. Sexton did put up some good scoring numbers, going 7-13 from the floor, with 13-15 from the free-throw line to finish with 28 points. Sexton also saw eight assists tonight, which isn’t common for him. So it was good to see him leading on the floor a bit more than usual.
3 Points – Kevin Love
Kevin Love wraps up the game with a game-high 30 points and 14 rebounds. He had a plus/minus of +14 and was actually engaged in the game, which hasn’t always been the case this season. If Love can play like this more often then maybe the Cavs can get back to the playoffs faster.
