DT Marvin Wilson

Fans love Marvin Wilson for some reason. The undrafted free agent out of Florida State is getting overhyped by the fandom because some experts believe he should’ve been drafted. There were reasons why he wasn’t. Reasons beyond him attempting to mutiny and hijack practices at Florida State too.

His Pro Day was bad, and he underperformed on strength exercises, which is kind of a big deal for defensive tackles. It’s 64.67% of the reason the Browns took Ohio State defensive tackle Tommy Togiai, cus he’s strong. Wilson also played poorly in 2021 for the Seminoles. A bad attitude, poor work ethic, and poor play.

Yet, fans are high on him?

Wilson was *supposed* to go in the first or second round in 2020, but that’s only because the NFL Draft is not a perfect measure of talent vs. expectation, and more than likely had Wilson gone that high, he would’ve been a bust. Just because he was once valued as a first-rounder, doesn’t mean that’s what you got when you signed him after 240+ players got picked over him a year later.

If the issues at Florida State, his work ethic, and lack of production aren’t reasons enough to suspect he isn’t making this team, then keep in mind he’s made absolutely no impact in the preseason. He’s on the last grouping of defensive tackles, the team didn’t spend a draft pick on him and his contract is very easy to get rid of.

While some rave about his “potential”, it’s important to remember what potential actually gets you. Fired. Unless he shows up and shows out in the next two games, it’s unlikely he even makes the practice squad at this point.
