Browns: 3 players to replace Jarvis Landry with and 2 not to
By Chad Porto
Replace – Demetric Felton
While Demetric Felton is a running back and a wide receiver, talking about Felton’s use isn’t just about him lining up as a wideout and running down the field. No, using him to replace Jarvis Landry would be a multi-faceted experiment.
Ideally, Felton would be used more in a situation with Odell Beckham and Rashard Higgins starting, either Felton would lineup in the backfield with Nick Chubb/Kareem Hunt/Andy Janovich and then get set in motion, or he’d lineup naturally in the slot. Either situation allows for Felton to be used more like a receiver and be able to use his speed to his advantage.
The other old standby is putting him in the backfield on second and short’s and just throw screenplays to him as the Browns did against the Texans. He’s clearly fast enough to outrun defensive backs and get yards in that situation.
Now yes, he was lined up in the slot on a quick screen and it was second and 19 and not second and short, but the idea and theory still stand.
He may not make for a perfect receiver, but his hybrid ability allows you to get interesting and weird with play-calling and that could always lead to bigger plays from the offense and more scoring touchdowns.
