The Cavs are apparently not done making trades and that’s a good thing

The Cleveland Cavaliers are not done apparently

Jason Lloyd of the Athletic made it very clear that he believes the Cavs aren’t done making moves just yet. As he’s an insider with knowledge on what the Cleveland Cavaliers are doing (the Athletic reported the Cavs had an interest in Caris LeVert long before the trade happened), it’s fair to say if anyone knows what the team is planning outside of the front office, it’d be him.

Does that mean the Cavaliers are going to make another huge LeVert-sized move? Unlikely. The Cavs have about $8-12 million of free money to play with exceptions and such and could get to $20 million if Collin Sexton and maybe Cedi Osman were thrown in as well.

Hoops Hype is reporting that Sexton has a few teams who are “sniffing around” to see what happens with the Cavs, hoping to make an offer for the young guard. They also report that the Cavs may re-sign Sexton, as they’re projected to be under the luxury cap by about $20+ million if they make no more moves.

Yet, the Cavaliers also had talks with the Clippers about Luke Kennard before making the LeVert deal. With some in the know saying the Cavs aren’t done, and Kennard fitting the Sexton/JaVale McGee-trade-exception price swap, Kennard may still be in play.

The Cavs are taking shape with or without Collin Sexton

If there are legitimate possibilities that the Cleveland Cavaliers could get Luke Kennard this year, who’s under contract for a few more years and fits better next to Darius Garland in theory than Collin Sexton, I think you need to make that trade.

With so many big names going for peanuts on the dollar these days, Kennard could probably be had for Sexton and a few seconds, or maybe even get a few seconds in return if the Clippers have a big desire to re-sign Sexton.

While another move is possible, the talk is that it may not be a big one, and could just be an outlier move, something similar to when the Cavs got Rajon Rondo.

Regardless, the next few days before the Feb. 10 NBA Trade Deadline should be fun.
