The Cleveland Browns have seemingly committed to Baker Mayfield.

Ander Berry made it clear that the Cleveland Browns are behind Baker Mayfield for his fifth year in town, and the last of his current deal. Berry knows who Mayfield is, and he’s throwing his full support behind Mayfield.

He told the press this week that Mayfield is the guy going forward, and acknowledges that Mayfield’s torn shoulder affected how he played in 2021.

"The reality of it is we’ve seen him play at a high level before. I think, being realistic, the injury does have some impact on his performance. But we’re focused on him getting healthy. We know he works. We think he’s talented."

This should be good news for Browns fans who don’t think Mayfield is an issue. After all, the fifth-year veteran led the Browns to the playoffs in 2020 and then to the team’s first playoff win in decades. Berry is clearly not interested in replacing him at the moment, that could always change in 2022 if Mayfield struggles.

The Browns have been a team many pundits are expecting to go after a veteran quarterback like Aaron Rodgers, or draft one in the upcoming draft.

Drafting one doesn’t make a lot of sense, not with all the issues the offense has outside of Mayfield. As for Rodgers, it appears no one is calling him, let alone the Cleveland Browns.

The Cleveland Browns aren’t moving on Aaron Rodgers after all

The Green Bay Packers aren’t likely to trade Aaron Rodgers this offseason. They’ve made it known they want to keep him if he decides not to retire, and according to EPSN, they’re going as far to say that the team hasn’t even fielded a single phone call about Rodgers.

If the Browns are chasing down Rodgers, then it’s pretty clear they’re not looking to trade for a player. That’s probably the best idea, as many agree that big-name quarterbacks don’t get traded often.

So it makes little sense to move on from Mayfield. If the Browns are keeping Mayfield, then not going all out to get him the best talent possible would be foolish. So they’re not going to waste a pick on a rookie quarterback in the first few rounds.

The Packers did that, and it did not work out well for them. The Browns should look at a receiver in the first round, and avoid going after a rookie signal-caller.
