DT Larry Ogunjobi

Larry Ogunjobi is currently trying to work his way back from a foot injury, a foot injury that we don’t know too many details about. Ogunjobi was set to sign with the Chicago Bears in March, but failed a physical, resulting in his contract being rescinded. Now, Ogunjobi is on the market once again and ironically enough, the Cleveland Browns have a need for him.

Not for him, but for the position he plays. I always felt like PFF never fairly graded Ogunjobi; as they only use the ever-so-accurate eye-test when grading players, I feel it’s fair to point out how subjective PFF can truly be. I don’t think Ogunjobi is a Pro Bowl talent, but he did fine against the run and is a shockingly good pass rusher.

The Browns actually need a better pass rush in 2022 than they’ve had. Myles Garrett can get his, sure, but often times he’s the only one pulling that weight. When you don’t blitz like the Browns, you need constant pressure from up-front and that just hasn’t been the Browns. Not even with Jadeveon Clowney. Sure, he had nine sacks last year, but he wasn’t a constant force. A lot of his sacks were due to the corners being amazing at their job and taking away places to throw the ball.

Not a knock on him, he’s an upgrade over previous guys at his position but he alone isn’t making the Browns’ pass-rush better. That’s why the Browns drafted Perrion Winfrey and traded for Chase Winovich, to help goose the pass rush.

Save for Winfrey, they’re all ends, not tackles. The Browns need a veteran who has shown to be good at getting after the quarterback and Ogunjobi can do just that, as he showed in Cinncinatti with his seven sacks in 2021.

He may not be what he was, but he deserves a shot to show if can be something the Browns can use.
