Not counting Deshaun Watson; who were the 26 players that the Cleveland Browns 86’ed

The Cleveland Browns waived 26 players and had Deshaun Watson officially become suspended to reduce the roster to 53 names.

The Cleveland Browns have made the tough decision to cut their roster from an initial 90 players to star training camp down to just 53, two weeks before the first game of the season. The Browns have made some curious moves, but we’ll look at those specific moves in a later column.

No doubt some guys who fans wanted were going to get cut, and those cuts started in earnest on Monday. Only a handful of names were let go, with the rest coming on Tuesday. It should be noted the Browns only let go of 26 players, as Deshaun Watson, the Browns’ embattled quarterback, is now officially under suspension.

His suspension does count towards the Browns’ final 53, which means the team didn’t have to remove one more player from the roster, currently. They’ll still have to get down to that 53rd spot in Week 13 when Watson has finished his 11-game suspension.

One major point of emphasis remains is who did make the team. Everyone cut is, for the third straight year, not someone Andrew Berry has drafted. This isn’t surprising, as Berry has always favored his drafted players over everyone else, but a good deal of his drafted players are not working out.

Just like the other 31 other clubs in the NFL. For Berry to not be able to admit when a player isn’t working is worrisome. Though maybe not as worrisome as his judge of character.

And just so we’re clear, I’m using the term “cut” as a catch-all term.
