The Cleveland Browns should be all in on Carolina Panthers’ Brian Burns.

The Carolina Panthers fired Matt Rhule and will give former Cleveland Browns defensive coordinator Steve Wilks a shot to turn around the season. Wilks should instantly get the most out of this team, and should right many of the wrongs that Rhule had. Who knows, maybe the offense will start being competent, if not, dare I say, good.

Yet, until the Panthers stretch their cat legs under Wilks, the talk of gutting the team is coming up. Christian McCaffery, DJ Moore, and now Brian Burns have all been names that have been brought up as possible pieces the team could trade away.

The thing everyone should keep in mind is how rare in-season trades actually are in the NFL. It’s not likely to happen at all, let alone seeing all three get traded. Yet, if any (or all) of them are in fact on the market, the Cleveland Browns need to be calling about Burns.

While McCaffery and or Moore would be awesome too, simply because he could give the Browns a dynamic receiver that they’re lacking, Burns is the player of more priority.

Brian Burns would help to solve some issues the Cleveland Browns have

Bruns is a defensive end/outside linebacking hybrid player. He’s a pass-rusher who can get after the quarterback and considering the Browns are in dire need of a guy who can help to get after the quarterback, Burns should be a name the Browns highly inquire about.

Draft price will dictate how viable that move is, but at only 24 years old and with another year on the contract, Burns makes too much sense not to go after. Now, you may cite Myles Garrett and Jadeveon Clowney as reasons to not get Burns, but that’s only if you think of NFL football in general as a Madden experience.

Burns can play linebacker and with 4.53 speed, can probably do so effectively. As a rookie, he posted a respectable 73.5 in coverage. So he’s not just a speedster end, he can drop into coverage as a linebacker.

Not only that but you can rotate him in with Garrett, who always needs a break, and Clowney, who is usually hurt. Beyond that, if you want all three guys on the line, both Garrett and Clowney line up inside sometimes, making Burns more than capable of being a valuable asset.

That is if the Browns are smart enough to fit him into the scheme. Considering Clowney is likely not coming back next season, Burns makes absolute sense. Not just for the next two years, but possibly beyond.
