Cleveland Cavaliers dispel the Orlando Magic for third consecutive win
Cleveland Cavaliers sustains momentum to win three straight
The Cleveland Cavaliers continued to protect homecourt, scoring a 103-92 victory over another young and talented squad in the Orlando Magic. The Cavs move up to 3-1 early in the season following three consecutive victories.
After relatively timid offensive outings in the previous games, rising star Evan Mobley top-scored for the Cavs with 22, while his Tower City partner Jarrett Allen had a massive double-double of 18 points and 16 boards.
Three-time NBA All-Star Donovan Mitchell. who made history with an absolute scoring tear of 100 points through three games to open the season, cooled off a bit to add 14 points but dished out eight assists for Cleveland.
Meanwhile, Orlando’s top pick from the most recent draft Paolo Banchero proved his mettle with 29 huge points coupled with eight rebounds and four assists. Sophomore big man Franz Wagner wasn’t far behind with a 22-5-5 line in the loss.
The Cavs’ balanced attack remains fruitful
Following a back-and-forth slugfest in the first half, Cleveland never trailed past halftime and closed out strong in the final period thanks in no small part to another balanced offensive outing.
At least six Cavaliers players tallied double-digits in a win for the second consecutive game, with Turkish gunner Cedi Osman adding 14 markers and becoming the team’s most consistent scorer off the bench thus far.
Forward Dean Wade, who stepped into the starting lineup also joined the party with 12 as the primarily defensive-minded Isaac Okoro was moved to the bench, once again scoring just two points after only seeing 11 minutes of action against Orlando.
With Darius Garland still out from a lacerated eyelid from the season opener, head coach J.B. Bickerstaff has been shuffling the rotations and the Cavs remain fortunate to be able to benefit from different guys stepping up to help shoulder the offensive load.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have been riding on a wave of positive vibes, one that is reminiscent of last season’s surprise run, but will now have their first acid test of the young season when they visit the Eastern Conference champions Boston Celtics on October 29.
