The Cleveland Cavaliers were able to defeat the Dallas Mavericks thanks to Donovan Mitchell outdueling Luke Doncic.

The Cleveland Cavaliers were able to get the hard fought win over the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday. The matchup saw Donvoan Mitchell and Luke Doncic trade shots all night, with Mithcell edging out the over-worked Doncic.

Doncic, unlike Mitchell, has a great supporting cast around him. He saw that cast do good work on Wednesday, with Lamar Stevens pulling in a double-double, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen dropping 14 points while playing good defense and Darius Garland struggle through finger issues for 12 points.

Doncic, on the other hand, did most of the work on his own, with some help from Christian Wood. It’s a clear sign of how loaded the Cavs are, compared to a team like the Mavericks, who are in dire need of help but with no real capital to bring said help in.

The Cavs and Mitchell aren’t without issues, however. Caris LeVert continues to be up-and-down, Garland’s injury and his desire to keep shooting are not going hand in hand, Kevin Love got limited action, and Cedi Osman is seemingly in the dog house for missing an assignment in the prior game against the Spurs.

So even though Mitchell outdueled Doncic, it’s not like the Cavs are devoid of their own internal drama at the moment.

The Cavs finished off the Mavericks 105-90, moving their record to 18-11 on the season.
