From Pokemon to goofing on his teammates, Jarrett Allen remains one of the most likable Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have been one of the Top 6 teams in the NBA for most of the season. Donovan Mitchell has proven to be a high-ceiling guy, capable of taking over a game. Darius Garland has shown to be a great shooter, despite some issues on defense. Evan Mobley is everything anyone thought he could be, with his defense shining bright and his shot dropping with ease. Yet, the easiest player to root for isn’t either of those three. It’s the fourth horseman, the fourth musketeer, the green Power Ranger; Jarrett Allen.

Allen is not only one of the best defensive players in the league, he’s already one of the best defensive players in team history. Not only that, but he’s the current leader in franchise history in shooting and true shooting percentage; edging out names like Brad Daugherty and Kyle Kover respectively.

Yet, it isn’t his defensive dominance or his quiet offensive prowess that makes him among the most-liked players on the team. It’s his relatability. Allen is quick to try and make his teammates laugh and in doing so, makes himself far more endearing than expected.

Jarrett Allen could be an all-time great for the Cleveland Cavaliers

Allen’s affability isn’t reserved for his light-hearted and charming personality, but also for his very earnest love of the quieter things in life. For decades, basketball All-Stars were about fash cars, high fashion and a life of decadence. Allen? Allen just wants to play Pokemon on his Nintendo Switch.

When asked by Evan Dammarell about what he thought was going to happen for Pokemon Day on Feb. 27, he revealed he was hoping for some of the Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advanced games to come to the Switch.

When Mitchell asked for clarity on the question, Allen joked with the Cavs star, calling him “young man”.

It’s that type of silliness that makes Allen someone that fans can relate to.

If Allen was just a bench guy, he’d probably still have a fanbase, as he is a charming young man. But it’s his talents on the court that makes him so undeniable. He’s one of the top defenders in the league and may have a shot at the Defensive Player of the Year award, or at least he would if Nikola Jokic wasn’t dominating the league on both ends of the court.

He’s a Top 50 player in box plus-minus for the entire NBA, a league that has nearly 500 players in it, and is third on the team in BPM.

Allen is a great player, a former All-Star, and is destined to be on the NBA’s All-Defense team in the near future.
