The Cleveland Browns may have a legitimate shot to sign Odell Beckham Jr.

The Cleveland Browns may not be out on Odell Beckham Jr. after all.

The Cleveland Browns need help at receiver, that’s the theme of the remaining offseason. While we can debate if the additions to the defense were good or not, they made changes. That gives the Browns’ defense, at the very least, a shot at being good. That’s all you can ask for, moves to make things better. Will it work? Who knows, only time will tell.

So all that to say, the Browns have effectively tackled most of the issues on defense. Now it’s onto the offense. They added a third tight end, a solid move that helps them move towards a more open offense that Deshaun Watson can make the most out of (hopefully), but they’re not done with this new run-and-gun style offense. No, they need another wide receiver.

Andrew Berry has drafted three notable names who have failed to pan out in the last two seasons, and while there may be some who want to see what these young guys can do, this is no longer a team that can afford to give reps to project players. If a guy isn’t making waves on day one, you find someone who will.

This team is not going to be a dynasty. You’re stacking contracts on the back end, and setting yourself up for a full rebuild in a few years at best. The only way you make that rebuild sting less for the fanbase is to deliver a championship. That means no more leaning on younger, unproven guys. You need experience.

This is why it makes sense for the Browns to go get Odell Beckham Jr. Now, Beckahm Jr and the Browns have had a rocky relationship at best. His three years in Cleveland were not great, and he never looked like a real number-one option. They divorced in a rather ugly fashion but now both sides are desperate. Beckham needs another shot and the Browns need someone with a high ceiling and a high floor.

That’s Beckham. Even if he struggles, he’ll still likely be a better option than others on the market.

Odell Beckahm Jr. is not getting the offers he wants

Beckham is not getting the deals he’s been hoping for. Some reports claimed he was looking for $20 million per year. Beckham, himself, denies these claims. He also implies that the highest offer he’s been given is $4 million.

A number that may not get much higher at this rate. Mary Kay Cabot reported that Beckham remains an option for the Browns, at least internally. They want him, but does Beckham want Cleveland?

Right now, it’s likely he won’t get the offer he wants, and unless he’s totally foolish, he’ll take whatever the best offer is. It makes no sense for him to sit out a second straight year of football, thinking that he’d somehow get a better offer that way.

So he’ll sign somewhere, likely on a one-year “prove-it” type of contract. The Browns could do themselves some good by landing Beckham on a one-year deal, worth around $6 million or so in incentives.

While I’m not personally a fan of Beckham, as his locker room and off-field antics are a cloud most teams should avoid, the Browns are no longer a team with a sterling reputation, so trying to protect that is no longer a priority. Go get Beckham, deal with any fallout as it comes, and try to win.

There are a lot of fans who really need a Super Bowl to justify the nonsense the team has inflicted on them since last offseason.
