The Ohio State Buckeyes’ perfect season is no more as the Voice of the Fan had issues with how they called plays.

There was a slight rain falling in Happy Valley as the the Ohio State Buckeyes invaded Penn State. From the beginning, the precipitation was as slow as Ohio State’s start on offense.

There was some bad play calling on both sides that resulted in a three to nothing Buckeyes lead with 10 minutes to go in the second quarter. Although the Nittany Lions had a field goal blocked early in the early first quarter, they tried some out of the ordinary play calls that backed them up; Something that was more than surprising to the Buckeyes.

Ohio State were unusually run heavy with their offensive play calling. Unfortunately,  Buckeyes quarterback J.T. Barrett had yet another poor day throwing the ball.

I’m not sure if it’s Barrett’s fault with his bad throws or the wide receiver’s inability to separate from the defensive backs. Whatever it is, Ohio State continues to show that they have a ton of work to do with their passing game and Buckeyes’ head coach Urban Meyer knows it!

Finally with 4:53 on the clock, Barrett found tight end Marcus Baugh for a touchdown. On the play, Baugh bulled his way through Penn State defenders as he found the end zone. Barrett also found his passing rhythm on that drive with only one incompletion! The Baugh touchdown drive is one of his best one the season.

With a little more than a minute left in the first half the Buckeyes kick a field goal to increase their to 12-0 Ohio State. Following the score,  the Nittany Lions drove the field and scored a touchdown with a few seconds left on the clock. In turn, the lead was cut to 12-7 Buckeyes at halftime.

H-Back Curtis Samuel did not run the ball until the second half. During his first attempt following the half, he went 74 yards to the house. Shortly there after, the Buckeyes increased their lead via a safety, increasing their lead to 21-7.

Following a blocked punt, three points given up, a blocked field goal returned for a touchdown, and subsequent 45 yard return yards later, Penn State was leading 24-21. That score ultimately became the final.

The nonaggressive and unimaginative play calls by Ohio State and the mistakes made will cost these Buckeyes. Finally the youth and lackluster play of the offense cost Ohio State a shot at the national title.

Tonight was a game in which they made more mistakes than they could cover up for. With the youth on Ohio State’s roster, one can only hope they progress the rest of the year and have a shot next season for a national title!
