Poor rookie grades show the Cleveland Browns must starting hitting the bullseye on their first round pick, writes Voice of the Fan Ric McElroy.

The Cleveland Browns rookie grades have come out and it’s not very pretty! They are rated by Bucky Brooks as 27th in the league. With 14 picks, that’s not saying much for those rookies.

The Browns are famous for their failed draft picks. How many first rounders are still here from just a few years ago?

Joe Thomas, Joe Haden, Danny Shelton, Cameron Erving, and Corey Coleman come to mind. I may have missed someone but I doubt it.

This franchise has blown draft picks to the point that two of them from the same year aren’t even here! To think, that wasn’t even that long ago. Johnny Manziel and Justin Gilbert, anyone?

Phil Savage made Thomas the third overall pick in the 2007 NFL Draft! JT’s played every snap since; A better all around man you couldn’t find!!

Haden, out of University of Florida, came by way of Tom Heckert’s choosing in 2010.  He had good years but is hurt often and plays with injuries that has slowed his play.

It’s time for this team and their high picks and lack of talent to do some damage in the draft. You must wonder after last year if the front office is capable of a good draft?

Building through the draft is the mature way to build a team, but if your draft is rated 28th, you’ve got to do a lot better.

The front office is made up of analytics people not football people. Sashi Brown and Paul DePodesta are money men not football knowledgeable as most GM’s.

Coleman, picked 15th overall, was rated as the 25th best first-round pick. That’s a cause for concern. The Browns basically traded down from No. 2, took Coleman at No. 15, and he barely showed he’s a first rounder in his first full season.

This franchise has done a lot of trading down with high picks and look what it has gotten them! The worst single-season record in franchise history and an apologetic letter from the owner isn’t much help to the fans.

You can’t put a lot of blame on Hue Jackson or even his coaching staff because he can only work with the talent he is given from those who do the decisions making.

So the front office better hunker down and blow the lid off this draft. If they don’t, we have to look forward to this happening yet another untold time.

If there isn’t a quarterback worth a first or second round pick then they must use those on the best playmakers available period. The quarterback will come, look at Dak Prescott. There are others stories like his.

Build the team around the quarterback, but have talent around him. With no talent, no one looks good.
