#71 – Jimmy Garoppolo

The Browns find a QB to groom early in the 3rd round. The plan was to take Carlos Hyde here and finish the offense off, especially after spending so much in free agency on the defense, but with Garoppolo on the board the Browns strike. Garoppolo was unknown to many entering the off-season but has rose up many people’s ranks with his performances. It is now possible that he is picked in the 2nd round, even high, by a team that misses out on a QB in the first round. Garoppolo’s measurables are not overwhelming but his talent and quick release have many excited. For Browns fans the natural comparison is to current starting QB Brian Hoyer. Drafting a younger version of Hoyer doesn’t seem to make a great deal of sense but at this point in the 3rd it is worth the risk.

#83 – Terrance Mitchell

The plan was to snag Hyde here but the Miami Dolphins snatched him up 2 picks earlier leaving the Browns with a difficult decision. Do they draft the next best RB that may not fit their style best or go with another player who can excel for them in the future. Mitchell’s height, at 6 feet, helps make the decision. The Browns do not have a corner with the height and reach to combat the bigger receivers in the NFL. Mitchell will help with this, though he may take some time to develop.
