#35 – Derek Carr

The Browns get their QB at #35. Where the QBs fall this year is anyone’s guess. Teddy Bridgewater seems to be taking a Geno Smith like fall, as we pondered at the end of the college football season. Not that Teddy won’t be good but he seemed to have concerns that have been unveiled in film study and his Pro Day. Carr has his own set of struggles. He has a powerful arm, confidence bordering on cockiness and has succeeded at the college level. Yet he struggles with pressure, got shown up against USC and has played most of his games against small school competition.

Still Carr could be long off the board by the time the Browns pick at 35. Could he be an option at 26? Sure. Many will compare Carr to Brandon Weeden, which isn’t fair to Carr. Comparing him to his brother also is a limited decision. One thing that many have pondered is whether the Browns, or any team, should “reach” for a QB they think could be “the guy” even if his ranking isn’t that high. Should the Browns risk losing Carr to Oakland or Minnesota or should they take him at #4? If they are really sold on a guy that is a great question.
