#83 – Jimmy Garoppolo

A QB that seems to be dropping as more and more tape is watched. He has the type of arm strength and quick release that make decision makers drool. On the other hand he has bad to terrible footwork, struggles under pressure and while 6’3″ seems to play smaller. It would come as no surprise if he, along with some of the other 2nd tier QBs drop in the draft. Getting selected in the 3rd round seems about right, though he could go a little higher in the round. That is what makes the draft interesting.

For the Browns Garoppolo is a developmental QB that could easily slide in behind Hoyer, learn for a year and ascend to starting after a year. His quick strike capabilities as well as big arm down the field fit well with the multiple options the Browns will have. If Hoyer has a great season and the Browns keep him around Garoppolo will be a quality backup and leave the Browns in a enviable situation with 2 quality QBs. If Hoyer is fine but Jimmy progresses the Browns can move on from Hoyer and not miss a beat.
