2.) Bad Season And Not Improving Means Bad News For Ramirez

The other move was a bit surprising in that the Indians number one prospect, SS Francisco Lindor was not involved. Jose Ramirez was demoted to Columbus as well with Zach Walters taking his place. Anyone but Ramirez would be better for the position because of the horrible season he has had so far.

In both Ramirez’s and Chisenhall’s situations, it can relate to the backup QB replacing the starting one. The time is now for changes. Lindor’s arrival in Cleveland is postponed again but given who all can play SS at the major league level, Lindor should be promoted pretty soon.

To get the most out of Ramirez, he should get playing time elsewhere because of Lindor’s eventual arrival.

When Ramirez gets his chance again, I would hope he is capable of giving Terry Francona another option at 3B and/or the OF. He is just 22 years old.

Ramirez has committed eight errors on 153 defensive chances. His offensive numbers .180/.247/.240 certainly shows the need for the team to make some changes.

Until Lindor does get that call, Mike Aviles and Walters is going to man shortstop. Walters is a jack of all trades kind of player. When Lindor does appear in an Indians uniform, and if it is after the trade deadline, he is essentially a trade acquisition, arriving late in the season.

Even when Lindor or Ramirez (if he makes the needed adjustments) comes up to play SS, Walters should stay on the big league roster with his experience at six of the nine positions.
