Brendan Haywood didn’t see much court time this season, but his contract was one of the most valuable in the organization. Fans will finally see why the Cavs held on to the North Carolina product for so long, when they deal his $10.5 million non-guaranteed contract this summer.
With the Cavs spending a ton of money, they’ll be limited in what they can do during free agency. Plus, after this season, the team won’t have a first-round pick until 2017. It’s imperative the Cavs turn Haywood into an asset who can help.
By trading Haywood, Cleveland could acquire a player making as much as $5 million more than Haywood’s non-guaranteed 2015/16 salary. The Cavs have until Aug. 1 to trade Haywood, because that’s when his contract becomes fully guaranteed.
