4. UDFA Will Have A Big Role

Tight End E.J. Bibbs is an undrafted free agent out of Iowa State, who has made quite a positive impression with the team. He is a talented, yet underrated player who should be able to succeed in Cleveland and will have a role in the offense.

Since that position is average at best, Bibbs will have his opportunity to prove he can make some plays. Bibbs is a solid pass catcher which will benefit Cleveland. He does a decent job blocking but if he makes it in the league it will be because of his receiving skills.

I am a big fan of his and was surprised like other football fans he was not at least drafted in the later rounds of the draft. He has the talent to catch the ball, but will that be enough to have a legitimate role this season?

Shortly after the draft I had discussed the Browns TE position and how Bibbs fit into the offense then. Cleveland will keep three, maybe four tight ends on their roster. Among the tight ends currently playing for a spot are Bibbs, Randall Telfer (once he gets cleared, perhaps later this season after having surgery), Jim Gray, Rob Housler, and Gary Barnidge.

I have much more confidence in Bibbs than most of the TEs on the roster. If Bibbs does show his potential during the preseason, he will get a spot on the team, which would likely mean a veteran tight end is cut. That veteran will not be Housler as he is one of the team’s free agent pickups. Don’t be shocked if Bibbs end up on the 53 man roster and contributes.
