SD Defense

San Diego’s Defense has played surprisingly well this season, as they only gave up 975 yards this season (325 yards/game). That total yardage ties them for 9th lowest amount of yards given up in the NFL with the St. Louis Rams.

This surprising amount of total yards given up is thanks to the Chargers’ defensive backfield only giving up 568 yards in the air (289.3 yards/game) which only trails Denver and Seattle for least amount of yards given up to the opposing team’s passing game.

The DB core consists of CBs Brandon Flowers and Jason Varrett along with SS Jahleel Addae and FS Eric Weddle. With how underwhelming the passing game has been so far for the Browns, this is going to cause a lot of issues moving the ball through the air on Sunday.

On the flip side however is San Diego’s run defense (led by former Notre Dame superstar Manti Te’o). Their defense has given up 407 yards so far this season, which is tied for 29th for the most rushing yards given up.

The Chargers run defense is not good at all this year (coming from a Browns fan that is saying a lot).

The Browns know they are going to want to establish the run as early as possible with the amount of controversy going on with their QBs. Going up against a bad Chargers run defense is just what the doctor ordered.
