About The Buckeyes

The win today increased Ohio State’s winning streak to four against Michigan, the best stretch since the mid 1930’s. The winningest class in Buckeye history goes out with the gold pants to show for it.

Every Ohio State fan now is a Penn State fan. The path back to the playoffs begins and ends with the Michigan State-Penn State game. If the Nittany Lions win, Ohio State would face Iowa in the Big Ten title game in Indianapolis, given the Buckeyes another chance to show the playoff committee that they are one of the best four teams in the country.

A win over currently undefeated Iowa would make a strong argument, especially with the Baylor loss to TCU and the potential mass chaos this weekend’s games could offer.

It’s hard to believe that the consolation prize for Ohio State could be the Rose Bowl depending on how the Big Ten title game shakes out. If the playoff committee dings either Sparty or the Hawkeyes for a loss severely, then Ohio State could make their way to Pasadena against whoever wins the Pac-12 since neither team from that conference appears likely to make the playoffs.

It would actually be Buckeyes’ head coach Urban Meyer’s first trip to the Rose Bowl and Ohio State’s first the 2010 game against Oregon and 1997 against Arizona State before that. Part of it has been their success in the BCS era, but still, that’s tough to wrap your head around.
